This is a guide for common issues encountered once connected to a Zoom meeting.

No one can hear me, or I can't hear anyone else.

First, check that you aren't muted. If you see a microphone symbol with a slash through it (shown below), click the symbol to unmute.

Second, check that you have the correct microphone selected.

  • Click the up arrow to the right of the microphone icon
  • Select the mic you want to use. If you're not sure, try each one until others can here you. Alternatively, you can test your mic input in the next step.

The next thing to check is to see if Zoom has access to your microphone.

  • Begin by searching for Microphone in the Start Menu and selecting Microphone privacy settings from the menu.
  • Scroll down and you’ll see the list of applications that are allowed to use your webcam. Make sure the box for your web browser or Zoom is ticked.

To see if your audio devices are working, click the up arrow to the right of the microphone and select Test Speaker & Microphone...

No one can see me, or the wrong camera is active

  • Click the up arrow to the right of the video camera icon (seen below).
  • Select the camera you want to activate from the list.

Additionally, if you’re on a Windows 10 device, Zoom might be blocked from using the webcam. You can correct this by checking your app permissions to make sure the Zoom app or your web browser can use your webcam. On the web specifically, you also can check this setting by restarting your call and making sure you pressed Allow when prompted about the camera and microphone access.

On the Windows Zoom application, you can check to see if your webcam is blocked by searching for Webcam in the Start Menu and selecting Choose which apps can use camera from the menu. Scroll down and you’ll see the list of applications that are allowed to use your webcam. Make sure the box for your web browser or Zoom is ticked. In the same way, you also can search for Microphone and choose Microphone privacy settings to do the same.
